What Constitutes Sexual Harassment?
Under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 (POSH Act), sexual harassment includes any unwelcome act or behaviour of a sexual nature, whether direct or implied, that violates an individual's dignity or creates an intimidating, hostile, humiliating, or offensive environment.
Types of Sexual Harassment
1. Physical Conduct

Unwelcome physical contact or advances.

Inappropriate touching, patting, hugging, or brushing against a person.

Attempting or forcing physical intimacy.

Any other unwelcome physical behaviour of a sexual nature.
2. Verbal Conduct

Sexually coloured remarks or comments.

Inappropriate jokes, teasing, or suggestive conversations.

Repeated requests for dates or sexual favours despite refusal.

Comments about a person's appearance, body, or personal life that are sexual in nature.
3. Non-Verbal Conduct

Staring or leering in a sexually suggestive manner.

Making offensive gestures, facial expressions, or whistling.

Displaying or circulating sexually suggestive posters, pictures, or objects.

Any unwelcome non-verbal behaviour of a sexual nature.
4. Written, Electronic, or Online Conduct

Sending unwelcome messages, emails, letters, images, videos, or social media content of a sexual nature.

Sharing explicit or offensive material through digital platforms.

Cyberstalking, repeated unwanted online communication, or harassment through electronic means.
5. Abuse of Authority (Quid Pro Quo)

Seeking sexual favours in exchange for academic, employment, or other benefits.

Threatening adverse academic or professional consequences for refusing such advances.

Using one's position or authority to intimidate, coerce, or exploit another person for sexual purposes.

The Committee is committed to ensuring a safe, respectful, inclusive, and gender-sensitive environment for all students, faculty members, and staff. It works to prevent sexual harassment, promote awareness of gender equality, and provide a fair, confidential, and timely mechanism for the redressal of complaints while safeguarding the dignity and rights of every individual.
